#23 One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975)

Upon arrival at a mental institution, a brash rebel rallies the patients together to take on the oppressive Nurse Ratched, a woman more a dictator than a nurse.

Nurse Ratched is a bitch and I hate her guts. In other news, Chief and McMurphy’s friendship became one of my favorite movie friendships of all time. It makes me sad to think what ended up happening to McMurphy though. Ratched deserved it much more. All in all, though, a good movie even if it’s not one of my favorites.

[Favorite Line] McMurphy: What do you think you are, for Chrissake, crazy or somethin’? Well you’re not! You’re not! You’re no crazier than the average asshole out walkin’ around on the streets and that’s it.

#92 Airplane! (1980)

An airplane crew takes ill. Surely the only person capable of landing the plane is an ex-pilot afraid to fly. But don’t call him Shirley.

Ridiculous film. Honestly only found a few parts to be laugh out loud funny. Most of it was just slapstick comedy, which isn’t my favorite. 

[Favorite Line] 

Rumack: You’d better tell the Captain we’ve got to land as soon as we can. This woman has to be gotten to a hospital.
Elaine: A hospital? What is it?
Rumack: It’s a big building with patients, but that’s not important right now.

#3 Pulp Fiction

The lives of two mob hit men, a boxer, a gangster’s wife, and a pair of diner bandits intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption.

I guess I’ve joined the cult because I seriously loved every minute of this movie. 

[Favorite Line] Vincent: Jules, if you give that fuckin’ nimrod fifteen hundred dollars, I’m gonna shoot him on general principles.

#276 Lost in Translation (2003)

A movie star with a sense of emptiness, and a neglected newlywed meet up as strangers in Tokyo, Japan and form an unlikely bond.

A fantastically funny and witty movie. The first movie I’ve watched where I’ve genuinely liked Scarlett Johansson.

[Favorite Line] Bob: You want more mysterious? I’ll just try and think, “Where the hell’s the whiskey?”

Memento (2000)

A man, suffering from short-term memory loss, uses notes and tattoos to hunt for the man he thinks killed his wife.

This movie is absolutely fantastic and had me glued to the screen. It’s definitely joined my list of favorite movies. Full of suspense, thrill, “what” moments, and action. 

[Favorite Line] Leonard Shelby: Memory can change the shape of a room; it can change the color of a car. And memories can be distorted. They’re just an interpretation, they’re not a record, and they’re irrelevant if you have the facts. 

#156 Notorious (1946)

I didn’t find Alicia and Devlin’s romance believable, but I did find the Nazi-spy storyline interesting.

[Favorite Line] Alicia: Dev, is that you? I’m glad you’re late. This chicken took longer than I expected. I hope it isn’t done too much. It caught fire once. 

#94 The Apartment (1960)

One of the best romantic films I’ve seen. Sometimes even nice guys get the girl.

[Favorite lines]

C.C. Baxter: The mirror…it’s broken
Fran Kurbelik: Yes, I know. I like it that way. Makes me look the way I feel.

Fran Kurbelik: When you’re in love with a married man, you shouldn’t wear mascara.

#2 The Godfather (1972)

A goddamn good gangster movie. 

[Favorite Scene] When Don Vito Corleone is playing with his grandson in the yard and dies while laughing with him. If you have to go, that’s the way to do it. 

#5 The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (1966)

As far as old western movies go, I prefer The Magnificent Seven, but Clint Eastwood and the score were perfect. 

[Favorite Line] Blondie: You see, in this world there’s two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig. 

I’ve decided that instead of watching particular movies, I’m going to try to watch every movie on the IMDb’s Top 250 Movies list this year (as it stands today). So far I’ve seen 64, which isn’t bad, but it will be a decent amount of “work” getting through the rest on the list. 

And since it’s a lot of “work”, I’m going to count it as however numbers I previously had up for movies. I’ll post about each movie (briefly) as I finish them.
